The study attempted to determine the level of competencies of the nursing students in Biochemistry along concept and mathematical ability using formative evaluations and to determine the correlation of these competencies using five teaching strategies – lecture, inquiry, discussion/collaborative, experiment/laboratory, and module. Since it was found that the level of competencies of students along concept and mathematical ability is fair, teachers must provide opportunities for the students to increase their achievement and performance considering that Biochemistry must be experienced in concrete and meaningful situations. Teachers should use activities that ensure the development of critical thinking skills in the students at the start of the course.
