For a number of years now NOC*NSF has the strategic goal to be within the Top10 of elite sports in the world in the medal table of both the Summer and Winter Olympics. Until now we have only managed to reach this strategic goal during the Summer Olympics in Sydney. Why haven’t we been more successful, as an organisation (NOC*NSF), in relation to this strategic goal? This research will concentrate on the question ‘’what is the best organisational structure and governance model for NOC*NSF to reach the strategic goal of a sustainable Top10 position with elite sports in the world?’’ I n the framework of organisational sports in the Netherlands we have a 4 year strategic cycle called the ‘’Sports Agenda’’. Every 4 years NOC*NSF and its 73 members (National Federations) determine a strategic plan including main objectives.
