Название: The Fish Export Trade and Food Security
It is noted that the initial Nile perch boom improved per capita fish consumption to 12 Kg by 1992. However, three decades after intensified commercial industralisation coupled by increased fishery product s export from Uganda, food security challenges emerged. These could be seen as drop in per capita fish consumption to merely 7 Kg by 2004, as most of the Nile perch was exported, hiking prices for what was left for local consumption. The local poor could only afford buying low quality and immature fish and industrial by products like skeletons. Thus, this book presents findings of a study that studied the impacts of the fish export trade on food security among fishing communities of Masese and Wanyange in Jinja district Uganda. Focus was mainly given to impact on accessing favorite fish species, consumption quantity, quality and frequency, fish size and price.
