Against the backdrop of books discussing the use of bio-based materials in bioplastic applications, this book presents an in depth research in the utilization of meat and bone meal (MBM) rendered proteinaceous animal co-product in the processing of bioplastics using scalable industrial processing routes.Chapter 2 covers the thermoplastic processing of MBM based bioplastics using glycerol as the plasticizer and their subsequent properties. In Chapter 3, as a strategy to increase water resistance of MBM, studies on the calendering of bio-based composites of MBM with minor fractions of LLDPE are discussed. Chapter 4 concludes by examining the chemistry to enhance properties of MBM bioplastics while retaining biodegradability and thermoformability through the use of resins from controlled reaction of anhydrides with glycerol.
