In this book, different studies among the effect of self-help books on the social skills (life skills) people especially university students in assertiveness and depression perspectives were investigated. In the first study to collect data, Emphatic Tendency Scale, open-ended interview forms and personal information forms were used. In the second study,Rathus Assertiveness Schedule and Beck Depression Inventory were used. Data were analyzed through one-way variance analysis. Open-ended interview forms were categorized, and thus their percentages were given. There are no significant difference between self-help books readers and non readers students among their emphatic tendency, assertiveness and depression levels. Some books such as “Educational Psychology, Development and Learning and Guidance” aimed at psycho-education” can be advised in the courses at the faculties of education.
