The author gives the origin and historical development of Dadakuada music which has been in existence for over two centuries as entertainment music for differnet occassions among the yoruba people of Nigeria. The status of the musicians in the society, sources of thematic materials, compositional devices, the language and religious influences of Ilorin on Dadakuada and performance practice are some sociological issues discussed in the book. From the musical perspective, the author discussing style and structure of Dadakuada music expose the reader to the instrumentation, melodic and rhythmic structures, scales, and form. This book contributes to discourse on African Traditional music and will me useful to students and scholars of music history, African studies, and music sociology.
