General Sir Michael David "Mike" Jackson,GCB, CBE, DSO, DL (born 21 March 1944) is a retired British Army officer and one of its most high-profile generals since the Second World War. Originally commissioned into the Intelligence Corps in 1963, he transferred to the Parachute Regiment, with whom he served two of his three tours of duty in Northern Ireland. On his first, he was present as an adjutant, second in command at the events of Bloody Sunday (1972), when soldiers opened fire on protesters, killing 13 people. The second inquiry was expected to report in late 2009 but was delayed until after the general election on 6 May 2010.The report of the inquiry was published on 15 June 2010. The report concluded, "The firing by soldiers of 1 PARA on Bloody Sunday caused the deaths of 13 people and injury to a similar number, none of whom was posing a threat of causing death or serious injury."
